Red Hill Auditorium, Perth, Western Australia, December 4th 2011 http://martywillsonpiper.net/v2//index.php?itemid=165
At Red Hill the band will be performing songs from their deep catalogue including popular favourites such as Under The Milky Way and Almost With You as well as thought provoking lyrical gems entwined with evocative moods, crashing drums and bass and ringing guitars.

This show is also special by nature of the bill, including The Triffids and Ed Kuepper. Kuepper most famously from seminal Brisbane punk outfit The Saints and the newest ‘Bad Seed’. (Martyn Casey from The Triffids an established ‘Bad Seed’ already). The Triffids need no introduction to a Perth audience. Steve Kilbey performed as guest vocalist with them on their reformation dates in January 2008.

The show promises to explore the more creative side of Australian music with these three most interesting artists. Held in an open air setting at Red Hill Auditorium on a balmy night in paradise, this is a concert not to be missed.

Honey Mink Forever cd

Recorded at The VIP Lounge in Penzance, Cornwall, Marty Willson-Piper and Dare Mason have written another eclectic set with the only thread being their diverse musical tastes and longstanding friendship. The album will be available to pre-order from November 1st 2011and will be released as a download and digipak CD on December 1st 2011.

The first 500 people to order the album will be given three free downloads. The first song Better Hope You’re Not Alone is a taster track - the other two do not appear on the album. These two bonus tracks, Turn the Dial And Scream and The Fugitive have an interesting story. Dare and Marty each sing their own lyrics and vocal melody over the same musical backing. It’s a unique and interesting experiment that shows a personality can shape anything into one’s own personal vision.

Dare and Marty grew up together in the North West of England close to Manchester and Liverpool spending their teenage years on the Wirral Peninsula between Liverpool and North Wales. Marty’s tenures with Australian cult band the church, English folk goths All About Eve and punk legends The Saints are a good indication of his eclecticism. Dare has an extensive CV as a producer/ engineer working with Queen, Prince, David Sylvian, Ravi Shankar, Paul McCartney and a whole host of different kinds of artists. He has also recorded and released two ambient albums.

Together they make a musical stew of diverse ingredients, happily genre-hopping from Pink Floyd-esque epics, to rock, folk and pop, even jazz rock. The ten tracks are invariably richly harmonic and melodic but can also be dark and aggressive. Always lyrically intriguing with stories of woe, love, fantasy and down to earth songs of reality, Noctorum will take you on a journey outside of yourself, inside of yourself and everywhere in between.

Dare Mason and Marty Willson-Piper

Bert Jansch RIP http://martywillsonpiper.net/v2//index.php?itemid=162 My only Jansch story is arriving too late at The Lyceum in London a couple of years ago and they wouldn't let Tiare and I in because the box office was closed-even though it wasn't sold out. Tragic! But really his music was so wonderful and influential - just ask Jimmy Page, or Johnny Marr.Go and buy a record, try and find it on vinyl- either solo or with Pentangle. Warmth was his trademark, one of my fave's as a song was Sally Free And Easy on the Pentangle album Solomon's Seal. Wonderful. But on his solo records there is much amazing acoustic guitar playing and warm folk vocals. RIP Bert.]]> Blog http://martywillsonpiper.net/v2//index.php?itemid=162 Sun, 9 Oct 2011 13:59:17 -0400 http://martywillsonpiper.net/v2//index.php?itemid=161 “An Electric Concert For Connoisseurs”
the church at Twin Towns Showroom

Thursday December 22nd 2011

the church have been widely acknowledged as one of the great Australian bands. From their origins in the post punk/new wave ‘80s, they have encountered many different styles, fads and fashions and evolved over time into an original and influential group. In 2009 the band released their critically acclaimed Untitled #23 album receiving rave reviews in the press, including an unprecedented 5 Star review in Rolling Stone magazine. In October 2010, their 30th anniversary year, the band: Steve Kilbey, Peter Koppes, Tim Powles and Marty Willson-Piper were inducted into the Australian Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

On the live front the band have unveiled their “Future Past Perfect Tour” playing three classic albums in their entirety in one night. They have received rapturous reviews and ecstatic audience responses from the sell out crowds in the USA - a regular destination for the band over the past 25 years. This tour also comes to major Australian cities in December, performing one album from each decade of their existence. From the latest Untitled #23, available on their own Unorthodox label, to the perennial fan favourite Priest=Aura and culminating in their massive international hit album Starfish. EMI Records have recently reissued all their early albums with rare photos and extensive sleeve notes written by Marty Willson-Piper.

In April 2011 the band played their “A Psychedelic Symphony” concert at the Sydney Opera House with the 70 Piece George Ellis Orchestra. At Twin Towns the band will be playing a selection of songs from their colourful musical history. The repertoire will include classic hits such as The Unguarded Moment, Almost With You and Aria awarding winning song Under The Milky Way alongside fan favourites from their deep catalogue. The band continues to impress with its creative output and musical vision. This really is “An Electric Concert For Connoisseurs”.
